Praxis Core Help: Here’s the link: https://appstate.zoom.us/j/94641639733?pwd=WncxS21OUU42WVNneUNkM1BpdnREZz09 That’s 5:30-7:30 next Thursday GLSEN Solidarity Week (not "ally week" anymore) 1. How is solidarity different from allyship? -Allyship (straight-white-sis-gendered-privilaged-female usually puts a ally sticker outside their door); Learning with and communicating with those outside of your group; The person has an attitude of support for the LGBQ+ community and they shouldn't be oppressed (supportive association), whereas "solidarity" is taking action and listening to those who need support and help amplify their voice. 2. How might we bring solidarity into the classroom? -Regarding Disability Issues, make sure students and other teachers have at all times (not everything is going to be under your controle), but think about how you can make the environment more accessable, and have differentiation, and knowing your students and what they need. Everyone has unique needs. Speak to parents and others to make sure they. -Show emotional support and see where they want to be and help them get there. Have the students lead on what they think success is and support them. -Solidarity, we always talk about "the other", but we need to integrate and have inclusion so that its natural and comfortable over time. 3. How can we create solidarity in resistant groups? -Identify safety vs. comfort. -Examine needs and feelings, and provide a space where you have the ability to sit quiet and ask an open-ended question for an individual or group to explore their feelings.
