Notes on Racial Injustice in Education meeting 9/24/2020, 7-9 PM -White Supremacy and anti-blackness lead for expentions and expulsions of black and prison students. -Birth-to-Prison pipeline. Laws preventing slaves and then free slaves from learning to read creates a system of racial injustice. We all have different perpectives on race. Assumptions: Naming race hurts the country. -Pledge of Allegience that's supposed to be indivisable. It's been divided, causing a sense of trauma for children. We're all in this together, and we're all accountable for what our children will experience in the future. We're only going to move forward together. -Not feeling racial disparity is a racial disparity because you're taking advantage of those in dispare. -The data, process, and the outcome of what we're seeing needs to be transparent. See who'd experiencing the benefit and who'd not. -Need to heal from the trauma of white supremecy. USE words that are discomfortable to white people because discomfort creates growth. A principal's job is to hire good teachers and love the students. -Take a moment to redefine assumptions about young, black people. -Karen Anderson brought in MOVE: Men of Valar and Excellence to have men from the community to mentor 16 "trouble-maker" black boys. *Privilage is pervasive.
