C&C: Supporting Immigrant & Undocumented Students & Families during COVID19 Date: 10/14/2020 Hosted by Joy Delizo-Osborne; Speaker Vanessa Luna vanessa@immschools.org There is a huge population of undocumented people in the USA: Asian, Hatian (black), and Southern Americans. Some key best practices to support immigrant and undocumented -Think about mindset, misconceptions, and what liberation looks like (college, entrapenuer, etc.) -By sharing of resources instead of reacting to issues. Be proactive. -Engage in conversation in immigration before a crisis happens. -Present examples of successful undocumented (DOCA) immigrants who are not vilified. -Inoform communities of public spaces of support and acknowledge their leaders. During covid-19 undocumented first responders and workers have not gotten any financial assistance. As an educator you can ask hard questions about students providing identification in order to recieve services (lunch, library, technology, drivers licences, etc.).
