About this SiteThis site is dedicated to showcasing my work at Appalachian State University: Lesson Plans, Projects, Ideas, and Art. The name "smithdb1" is my AppState email address. It kind of grew on me, so I wanted to use it as my student-teaching website title. The SMITH.DESIGN button under my profile picture on this page leads to my Graphic Design website.
About the AuthorI am Mrs. Dorothy Smith. I am a proud wife and mother of two. I enjoy drawing, making crafts with my kids on the weekend, and watching cartoons with them in my down time. When on the job I feel that it is my responsibility to set a good example of expectations in the way that I treat others and in the professional manner I carry myself. I live by the Golden Rule of treating others the way you would like them to treat you: Respectfully, calmly, with care, and by showing they are valuable and valued. One of my biggest goals is to help my students to become more aware of their value and internal resources (care, creativity, humor, organization, etc.), and to teach them the importance of building community within the classroom.
I have an Associates of Applied Sciences in Digital Art & Animation (2004), an Associates of Applied Sciences in Advertising & Graphic Design (2014). I graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in K-12 Art Education at Appalachian State University in May 2021 with Magna Cum Laude Honors. I also have substitute teaching experience in Moore County Schools in North Carolina (2017). I have over a decade of experience in graphic design, and a lifetime of experience in visual arts. My favorite art activity is drawing in pencils, color pencils, pens, Sharpie markers, illustration markers, and watercolor markers. I also enjoy volunteering my design services to nonprofits and education institutions. |
